[Tainan, Taiwan, December 4, 2014]
Beginning on the 4th of December, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) hosts a two-day “Cross-Strait Youth Leadership Summit” in the NCKU International Conference Room and, attracting a crowd of 269 individuals from 44 different academic institutes, aims to provide an opportunity for mutual learning.

The event consists of a series of symposiums, lectures and workshops, in addition to experience exchanges from various student organizations.

Initially aimed towards student organization leaders in Taiwan, the first “NCKU Youth Leadership Summit” took place in 2012. However, since its establishment, the summit has been extended to include cross-border relations.

Indeed, of the many attendees, this year’s summit includes more than 20 student organization leaders from Tianjin University, as well as many exchange students.

The event was officiated by NCKU Executive Vice President Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su.
She advised students to make friends and said that she is happy to befriend so many people from various backgrounds, and that they are the muse and courage for some of her inspirations.

The summit then kicked off with a keynote speech on the topic of “Cross-Strait Youths to Change the World Together”.

Other activities following the keynote speech include discussions, symposiums and workshops, as well as experience sharing by various student organizations.

A student from Tianjin University shares that this [the summit] is the first time that she has visited Taiwan, and expresses her enthusiasm for the event, stating that the topics of discussion are both new and innovative, as well as being reflective of the current global trends and educational.

She is of the opinion that youths from the different borders should communicate and interact more, in order to give rise to new ideas, and is enthusiastic to mingle with new people.

She said, though Tianjin University and NCKU are both mainly engineer-based universities, the atmosphere is drastically different, and that NCKU has a distinct touch of culture in our gentle and beautiful campus.

Another student expressed his wish to discuss the issue of human rights to gain an understanding of the attitudes of youths from other nations regarding the topic of freedom and human rights.
