- Speaker:Dr. Won Zon Chen, Technical Fellow, Northrop Grumman Corporation, USA
Date:4 Dec. 2008
Venue:Lecture Hall, Department of EE
Topic:Sense and Avoid (SAA) Technology for Unmanned Aircraft (UA)
Time:14.00-16.00
Speech Info:
Use of unmanned aircraft (UA) has been quickly grown for military applications and explosive growth also expected for commercial applications. However, for these growths to be realized UA must be fully integrated with manned aircraft and be allowed to "file and fly" like manned aircraft. One technological barrier for such full integration is the lack of an onboard sense and avoid (SAA) system capable of providing UA with the ability to autonomously detect and avoid collisions with other aircraft.
This talk will describe the SAA problems/needs, various candidate technologies, an overall system-of-system solution approach, and recent flight test results. Advanced virtual prototyping via hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) ground laboratory for software development and system integration will also be briefly discussed.

- International Symposium CIB-W096 2009 Taiwan
Date: November 02-03, 2009
About CIB-W096
Leading research into architectural management is the CIB’s working group W096 Architectural Management. CIB W096 was established in 1993 following the first conference dedicated to Architectural Management, held in the UK in 1992. Since this time the commission has been active in the area, with regular international conferences, meetings and published conference proceedings.
The Architectural Management working group brings together researchers and practitioners concerned with the whole life cycle of building and construction projects. Recently the members of the working group have concentrated on achieving value for stakeholders and this work has led to a focus on integrated design teams and improved communications. Active working areas are; revaluing design, communicating design, inclusive design, design management, design integration, design management education and revaluing architectural practice—all with an underlying sustainable agenda.
The commission members have recently produced a book Architectural Management: international research & practice (Eds. Emmitt, Prins, Otter, 2009, Wiley-Blackwell, Oxford), which provides a state of the art report into the rapidly evolving Architectural Management field. With poetry as our messenger, the Taipei Poetry Festival has opened many a door to different cultures of the world for the readers to hear the real polyphony there is. This year, the focus is on the Asian poetry scene. With many years of efforts behind us, the Taipei Poetry Festival finally succeeded in inviting two distinguished guests, renowned Korean poet Kim Hyesoon and Chinese post-obscure poet Yu Jian. Indeed, the Taipei Poetry Festival has gladly taken up the responsibility to bridge the gaps between Taiwan and the world, the elite and the proletariat. Also, it is among our goals to obscure the lines of demarcation existing between different literary and art forms while pursuing the ultimate ideal of a harmonious existence with no heed to all manmade boundaries - be it class, race, or gender. This year, in addition to continuing with Poetry in Motion - a call for poetry films - which was met with enthusiastic response last year, there are special screenings of film by world-renowned poets Gao Xingjian(高行健) and Yu Jian(于堅), stage performance Midaregami - Tangled Hair: A Poem of Light and Shadows(亂髮), and a recital by Wang Yujun(王榆鈞), winner of the first prize at the Taipei Poetry Competition 2006. Moreover, there will be an activity called Poetry Reading for All in collaboration with the Guling Street Book and Art Fair and the Nanhai Gallery as well as various interdisciplinary exhibitions, with the aim to bring the Taipei Poetry Festival closer to the local communities.
